5 Letters Honoring My Family

Legacy Honored Faithfully

Chapter 1

Authentic Pursuit

Lessons learned in loss:

How getting back to the basics transformed my life.

A genuine pursuit to honor my father’s legacy has helped me rediscover my Faith.

With resolution in my heart, I now stand firm in my Faith, guided by the lessons instilled in me from childhood.

My hope is this story of perseverance and reconciliation will encourage you to pursue truth and fully understand your purpose.

My prayer is you pursue a deeper understanding of your personal gifts in order to fulfill your greater purpose in life through serving Christ.

“Decades to uncover, a lifetime to fulfill”

For nearly two decades, I searched for purpose and meaning in all the wrong places.

From the East Coast to the West, I ran from God’s calling on my life for longer than I care to admit.

Thankfully, through adversity and tough lessons learned I finally surrendered and rededicated my life to Him.

Hopefully, you’ll find comfort in the upcoming Letters of Gratitude written to honor how God transformed my life.

This letter of gratitude is dedicated to anyone who feels misunderstood, lost in the shuffle, or searching for a greater purpose in life.

“The righteous man falls seven times yet rises again” (Proverbs 24:16)

Chapter 2

Steadfast Faithfulness

A Legacy of Faith Rewarded:

How one Father’s lifelong pursuit of Faith still guides his Son today.

This tribute letter honors my Dad’s legacy and the lessons he taught me along the way.

In Billy Graham’s sermon titled “Quietly Sharing Your Message,” he emphasized that true strength comes from silence and stillness.

Dad, I’ll continue to honor your legacy with this sermon in mind. Armed with lessons learned under the lights, I’ll quietly share your message.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6)

I’ll honor your name until my time on earth is done.

I love you and I miss you, Your Son.

“For my ears have heard, now my eyes do see” (Job 42:5)

Bro. Phillip picked me up the day you passed. We headed down Shortbark and over to the central office. He gifted me our family bible.

Bro. Josh was making the turn two summers ago. He spotted me practicing. We played nine and shared stories of loss.

Bro. Green answered my call last fall. He listened, we prayed, and God guided me home safely.

Bro. James & Peter met me at the dojo. They advised me to be still, listen, and Trust in God.

Mrs. Webb mailed me the letters you once gifted teachers at school.

Mrs. Amburgey sat with me at the hospital during a difficult time.

Since you’ve been gone, they’ve stood in the gap.

Reminding me in Spirit you’re still here.

Your lessons guide me daily, as I quietly share your message. One thing is certain: I’ll honor your legacy of steadfast faithfulness until we reunite.

“your lessons guide me daily, once heard never forgotten”

I believe in you Son

All you gotta do is pray

You gotta have a balance

Be a leader not a follower

Work with me not against me

Build me up don’t run me down

Where there’s a will there’s a way

Be in the world not of the world Son

If God be for us who can be against us

Trust and believe in God he’s always there

Slow and steady we stay, balanced pursuing purpose

Powered by Faith, Forged in Time, Rooted in Love, Forever we Believe.

“Echoes of lessons never forgotten”

Chapter 3

Resilience Personified

Resilient to the end:

How my sister’s resilience continues to fuel my journey.

This tribute letter honors my sister’s resiliency in life and the lesson she taught us all.

The list of adversities you faced was long.

The lesson etched in our memory for all to remember:

“Reserve Judgment, we’re all equal in his EYE”

God granted you 40 years on earth

My

“Next 40”

are dedicated to you Sis.

Justice hasn’t been served yet, but I finally found peace —not through closure, but with acceptance in my heart.

The desperation in your voice that morning still echoes in my mind.

I was headed your way.
I’m sorry I didn’t make it.
I’m sorry I missed your calls.
I love you.

One thing is certain: I’ll quietly share your story

Chapter 4

Compassionately Caring

Devoted to caring for all:

How my Mother’s lifetime of Love inspires me daily.

This appreciation letter is dedicated to my loving Mother, Glenda Pemberton.

Compassion, kindness, and a gentle spirit are a few of the qualities that make my Mom so special.

Everyday you welcome new life into this world, and I’m amazed at how gracious you remain.

As a devoted nurse you care for all; new mothers, newborn babies, and excited families.

Words can’t express the depth of love and respect I have for you.

Thank you for all your support and love over the years.

Through all my misguided pursuits, big ideas, and youthful adventures you stand alone.

You always trusted

Thank You Mom,

I Love You

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you’ (Exodus 20:12)

“Life is Blooming”

Plant some flowers, your spirit will grow.

On the morning of October 9, 2025, I was gearing up to pressure wash my Mom’s house.

Ms. Regina Brett’s book “God Never Blinks” had been heavy on my mind all morning.

I began to share my vision of honoring Dad and Jamie’s legacy and how this book was a huge inspiration.

One by one, Mom began to read through the lessons as I paced back and forth sipping coffee.

The more she read, the less I paced. I was comforted by how connected I felt to her in that moment.

We started talking about some of the lessons from the book. Mom shared a little, then a little more.

Anyone who knows my Mom knows she’s the strong, silent type with the patience of Job.

What I loved most about this moment was seeing Mom’s creative spirit come to life as we shared and connected.

A few months earlier, I planted a flower bed for her and we noticed how that had helped me heal in my grieving journey.

By this time, my coffee cup was empty. It was time to wash the house, we hugged, and she said Son, remember ‘Life is Blooming.”

“The grass withers and flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isiah 40:8)

She’s truly an amazing Mom and I’m so thankful we shared this moment together. Tell your family you love them. Our time on earth is short.

Please don’t go another heartbeat without remembering what Ms. Regina Brett taught us in Lesson 28:

“Forgive Everyone Everything”

For 40 years, my amazing Mother encouraged me through her written letters that continue to inspire. She never missed a game, a golf match, or a birthday celebration. Every time I packed up my car for another big adventure she supported my youthful optimism.

As I drove off into the unknown the rear-view mirror never lied. Another tearful goodbye, she wished me luck, said she believed, and prayed a thousand prayers I’d make it home safely. Mom your prayers, love, and support never went unnoticed.

I love you with all my heart.

Your Son,

Jason

Chapter 5

Grief Avoidance

Acceptance was the key:

In the Summer of 2024 after a practice session at Lambert Acres Golf Course, the pavilion at Grand View Cemetery caught my eye.

I pulled in, grabbed a field guide, and slowly made way around The Healing Path.

This self-guided, interactive path has stations designed to help with grief.

I followed the prompts, took notes, and truly meditated on the purpose of the path.

“The Angel of Hope”

Grand view Cemetery

Near the end is my favorite spot, I grabbed a seat, and began to read.

In the final chapter of Jason and Lynn’s book I read about acceptance.

What took place next forever changed my life.

I receptively learned about the importance of acceptance.

In a moment frozen in time healing began that day.

This letter is dedicated to anyone who found their purpose early in life and authentically pursues Christ.

God bless you, you’re an Angel.

The healing journey is challenging.

Stay diligent in your search for peace through acceptance.

Resources that helped me reach acceptance during the journey.
